New ‘Microsoft Dynamics 365’ Platform Created to Unify Corporate Operations in the Cloud

Microsoft Corp. recently announced a significant update to its Dynamics business software line, Microsoft Dynamics 365 – the next generation of business apps in the cloud.  By merging its current cloud offerings for enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) software, business clients will be able to more easily purchase and manage corporate operations and sales tools applications from a combined cloud service (expected to release this fall).

The consolidation will aid users in managing business functions such as, human resources, financials, operations, field service sales, marketing, customer service and project service automation. Dynamics 365 apps will provide current users with a familiar experience and built-in insights, intelligence and workflow.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 applications will share a common data model with Office 365, allowing users to simplify data management by cross-communicating applications and business processes.  The common data model is a cloud-resident business database, built on years of experience with Microsoft’s enterprise customers. It will come with hundreds of standard business entities spanning both business process (Dynamics 365) and productivity (Office 365).

The offering includes Power BI and Cortana Intelligence software integration for structured workflow and productivity applications. Additionally, Dynamics 365 includes connectivity to the Office 365 business productivity suite, including web-based email, spread sheet, word processing and presentation apps.

What Dynamics 365 Can Offer You:

  • User Versatility: There will be a “Business” option for small and midsize businesses and an “Enterprise” one for larger deployments. Customers will be able to purchase only the components they need, down to the level of a singular business app.  Each edition has a set of purpose-built applications — for example, Operations, Sales, and Customer Service.
  • Flexible Platform: Dynamics 365 offers customers the flexibility to grow at their own pace and expand into additional capabilities with ease to run their entire business in the trusted Microsoft cloud.

Dynamics 365’s common data model consists of innovative applications and automated business processes which can be easily deployed and used across Microsoft’s entire customer base.

  • Financial Solutions: It will include Dynamics 365 Financials for Business, a comprehensive accounting and business management solution for SMBs. (That offering is currently in preview in the US today as Microsoft Project “Madeira.”)
  • Complementary Architecture: Dynamics 365 was designed to bring the full power of Microsoft apps together – utilizing productivity, advanced analytics, Power BI and IoT, with the strength of Azure and a new application platform and common data model.

Dynamics 365 will be a complement to Microsoft’s existing Dynamics ERP and CRM line-up, and not a replacement to any of the existing products there.  For customers using current Dynamics cloud solutions – Dynamics CRM online or Dynamics AX online – Microsoft Dynamics 365 has been carefully designed to be a seamless transition.

For those requiring solutions for on-premises or in private clouds, Microsoft will continue to innovate in, and support, its Dynamics CRM, Dynamics AX, NAV, GP and SL solutions. In addition, there will be connectors available if customers need to use a hybrid of on-premises and cloud solutions, as well as a migration path when they are ready to move to the cloud.

  • Functional Licensing: Dynamics 365 can be licensed by application or by personalized role. Role-based licensing is designed to help customers to support their employees in ‘real world,’ thus enabling them to access functionality across all applications within Dynamics 365.
  • Pricing: Details will be shared closer to the fall release date.
