INSIGHT 1 min read

In September 2023, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill No. 553 (SB 553) into law, requiring nearly all California employers to implement a workplace violence prevention plan by July 1, 2024. This groundbreaking legislation ushers in a new era of workplace safety and violence prevention, not exclusive to just California either.

Matthew Doherty, the managing director of Sikich’s workforce risk management team and nationally recognized for his work in violence prevention and threat assessment and management, was quoted in reference to this law by SecurityInfoWatch. Doherty was also featured in Workspan Daily, EHS Today’s Great Question podcast and Insurance Journal.

Doherty brings extensive experience gained in three decades of distinguished service across government and the private sector. He helps organizations build and expand violence prevention programs; assess and manage violence risks; train and empower workforces; and gain the business benefits that come with safe and supportive workplaces.
