One of the major decisions to make when migrating your ERP to Dynamics 365 Business Central (D365BC) cloud is what type of licensing to go with. Microsoft Business Central is meant to fit the needs of small and midsize businesses with core business requirements. It is designed to easily integrate all the fundamental needs within an organization such as sales, financials, operations, and more. In terms of licensing, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offers two Subscription Licensing (SL) options: Full Users and Additional Users. The licenses are named users which means each user requires an individual username. They cannot be shared with others, yet they are able to access the system through multiple devices.

Full User Licensing is for those who require access to all functionality and utilize the rich business applications within the system. Additional User Licensing is for the members who do not require full user capabilities, but may complete light tasks such as time or expense entry. Full User Licensing is comprised of Essentials and Premium, and for the purpose of this piece, we will focus on the Premium Functionality.

Business Central Premium Licensing

The reason to highlight the Premium License of Dynamics 365 Business Central is that it gives our clients in the Manufacturing Industry the robust functionalities to manage their business. Below are the key features that D365 Business Central users can take advantage of.

Production Orders

Allows you to create and manage production orders and post consumption and output to the production orders. And as an alternative to automatic planning, this module includes a manual supply planning tool.

Production Bill of Materials

This creates bills of materials and calculates standard costs.

Version Management

Gives you the ability to create and managed different versions of the manufacturing bill of materials and routings.

Machine Centers

This module is designed to help manage capacity of a single machine/producing resource.

Basic Supply Planning

Includes automatic production orders and purchase orders, action messages to easily balance supply and demand, support for bucketed and bucket-less material requirements planning, and setup for items with their own re-ordering policy.

Basic Capacity Planning

With capacity planning you will be able to add work centers to the manufacturing process, set up routings, and view loads and the task list for the capacities.

Finite Loading

Enables your system to calculate capable-to-promise (CTP).  This module also allows you to regulate the amount of work that is assigned to a given work center as it takes capacity constraints into account.

Sales and Inventory Forecasting

This built-in intelligence helps manage your stock and respond to customers.  It also helps create replenishment requests based on the forecast.

Demand Forecasting

Takes the demand forecast together with the level of available inventory and parameters of requirements planning into consideration to help plan and create production and purchase orders.

Whether you anticipate using all or just some of the modules listed above the functionalities available with Premium licensing will give your business the resources it needs to be successful.
