For many food and beverage manufacturers, having the ability to dynamically analyze nutritional information can be critical to the product development process. As the quantity of an ingredient changes, it can be a great asset to be able to see the affect on one of the many nutritional values pertinent to the product. The automation of this functionality can eliminate costly errors and free up valuable resources.
Formula Management for Nutritional Lab Calculations
Traditionally, as a nutritional formula is created, the formulator will need to manually calculate or bridge that data into a separate database for calculation.
Now, using Vicinity Manufacturing software, just a simple click of a button allows formulators to easily enable the calculations necessary for obtaining the relevant nutritional information.
Once the ‘Enable lab calculations’ button has been checked, a series of company-defined properties will appear within the formula. These values are enabled to dynamically change as ingredient quantities change, or as items are added or removed from the formula.
Bonus Functionality Benefit
In addition, users are able to assign multiple Serving Size ID’s to the formula – for example, setting the UOM and determining the formula quantity per serving.
Customizable Reporting Output
From the formula, users can generate fully-customizable reports, which can include the nutritional information that has been calculated.
Populating the Nutritional Calculation Properties
The nutritional calculations are based on the various properties associated with the individual ingredients.
There are a few options for populating these values – users may enter values manually, or perform the most common population by associating the item within an external nutritional database through integration.
Once the company link is set, users can freely associate a component with an ingredient utilizing the linked database.
The automated functionality of lab calculations to adjust nutritional values has added simplicity and reduced errors for many food and beverages manufacturers throughout the nation.
