With the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 on December 1st came many exciting new features.  One of which is the long-awaited ability to “lock” SmartList Favorites.  This new feature requires users to enter a password when modifying a SmartList Favorite.

In the SmartList Options window (Administration Homepage > Setup > System > SmartList Options), the ‘Modify SmartList Favorite’ field has been added at the bottom of the window.  This field allows a user-defined password to be entered.  If the box is left blank, no password is required.

Prior to GP 2016 R2, any user with access to a SmartList Favorite could make changes.  Now, when the password field is populated in the SmartList Options window, and a user attempts to modify a Favorite (using the Add or Remove Favorites window), they will be prompted to enter the appropriate password.  Without the correct password, the user cannot make changes to the Favorite.

This feature not only alerts the user that changes to the Favorite are being made, but also prevents accidental changes.
